Facebook announced its SNS-centric Home launcher is scheduled to launch to play store on April 12. But the but Paul O’Brien over at Modaco is giving you a chance to try it early.I must warn you that this is unofficial so you’d be installing them at your own risk and also the experience will be buggy and the prerequisites are pretty stiff.
- For starters need a phone that fits several requirements :-
Make sure your phone has a display that is at least 1280×768, On top of that, your phone must not have a version of the official Facebook app pre-installed. If Facebook is installed as part of your ROM, you’ll need to get rid of it for the APKs to work.
The leak itself is 3 APKs - the main 'katana' Facebook app: DOWNLOAD (ROMraid), the now-integrated-with-your-SMS 'orca' Messenger app: DOWNLOAD (ROMraid) (orca) and the 'home' Launcher shell app: DOWNLOAD (ROMraid). Simply install all 3 and you're set - bear in mind you do so at your own risk!
- How to do that :-
1. First backup your Facebook apk found in your system partition. And then delete it.
2. Install Facebook from the Play Store and uninstall it.
- Then you’d be free to install the Facebook Home APKs.
If you're rooted and want to play on a device with Facebook preinstalled, you need to...
- Find the location of Facebook in your system partition (e.g. /system/app/Facebook.apk or perhaps /system/app/Facebook_Client.apk)
- Delete said file (after backing it up!)
- Reboot device
- Install Facebook from the Play Store then uninstall it
- Install above APKs
Update: Facebook has turned off something at their end and apparently the app is not working anymore. It seems facebook has disabled the public connection to their app server. Sadly we will have to wait for the official release or another leak before the release date which is set for 12th April 2013.
